Our Founder

Dr Muhammed Abdoulie Tekanyi, fondly known as Teks, is a public health physician by training and a lifelong humanitarian and social justice enthusiast.

From an early beginning, he found passion in community building and social support, traits that he inherited from his parents who are career philanthropists. Muhammed was born and raised in the West African nation of The Gambia where he also completed his primary, secondary and undergraduate education.

He worked for half a decade as a hospital clinician at his country’s only teaching hospital and had a brief spell working as a research clinician at the Liver Clinic of the MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM. He then pursued postgraduate education and training in the UK, Nigeria, Taiwan, and in the United States where he currently lives and works.

Dr Tekanyi holds a medical degree from the School of Medicine & Allied Health Sciences of the University of The Gambia and a master’s in public health specializing in health policy and management from the Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy of the City University of New York
